Center for Global Public Health

About

About

We work directly with academic institutions, care delivery partners, and public health leaders and policy makers across the globe to find evidence-based solutions to the most pressing global health issues, working in partnership with our international collaborators.

Our center was established in 1988 as the  International Health Institute (IHI), with the mission to improve the health of populations in the Global South through transdisciplinary research, training and service. In 2025 we changed our name to better reflect our mission:  The Center for Global Public Health.

Who we are

The Center for Global Public Health includes faculty, students and staff from the four departments of Brown University’s School of Public Health: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Behavioral and Social Sciences and Health Services, Policy & Practice. We work directly with academic institutions, care delivery partners and public health leaders and policy makers across the globe to find evidence-based solutions to the most pressing global health issues, in partnership with our international collaborators.

Opportunities for students

In addition to conducting cutting edge research, faculty and staff at the International Health Institute are committed to mentoring early career investigators on their global health career path. We seek individuals with strong scholarly skills in interdisciplinary health sciences, epidemiology, and biostatistics, and those who are culturally sensitive with a demonstrated track record of success in diverse and challenging environments.

Individuals looking for mentorship, research opportunities, and professional development from CGPH faculty can contact the relevant faculty member directly via email. Brown University students who are conducting global health research are encouraged to explore the funding opportunities listed on our website. For general inquiries, you may email us at gph@brown.edu.
